GSOF’s Health and Human Performance Working Group – Join this Bold Effort
The legacy of special operations is grounded in the first SOF truth: humans are more important than hardware. This is not just a motto—it is an operational reality. Technology may accelerate missions, but it is the operator whose body, mind, and character determine success in the most demanding environments on earth. And yet, honoring this truth in practice—and at scale—remains one of the greatest challenges facing the force.
Lethality requires readiness. Readiness requires health. Health requires systems, innovation, and care models that understand the unique demands (speed, agility, security, precision, etc.) of SOF and refuse to compromise on the humans who carry out the mission.
That’s why the Global SOF Foundation (GSOF) and the Military Special Operations Family Collaborative (MSOFC) launched the Health and Human Performance Working Group—a solution-oriented forum designed to connect defense, industry, academia, healthcare, and nonprofit leaders around one shared mission: to strengthen the human weapon system and advance SOF lethality and legacy.
This initiative is not simply about improving programs; it is about rethinking what is possible. It is about building a high-functioning Health and Human Performance (HHP) industry capable of supporting the operator across the lifespan—training, deployment, recovery, transition, and beyond. It is about accelerating innovation that protects the warrior, enhances mission advantage, and ensures SOF families are not left behind in the pursuit of operational excellence.
And it begins with you.
If we were tasked—right now—with building the most advanced, most integrity-driven, most operator-centered human performance program in the world…
What would we dare to imagine?
What would we refuse to compromise on?
To achieve this, we need groundbreaking collaboration across the HHP arena. We need industry willing to push boundaries, academic researchers ready to validate and refine ideas, clinicians capable of translating innovation into care, and leaders—past and present—who understand the stakes of SOF readiness. We need advocates who champion the human behind the mission and nonprofits that act with purpose, integrity, and urgency.
Innovation in HHP doesn’t only protect lives—it enhances operational advantage.
A stronger, healthier, cognitively sharper force is a more lethal force. But lethality without longevity is not a legacy—it is a cost. And the SOF community has already borne too much cost across decades of war.
Our goal is to help build an industry ecosystem that:
- elevates prevention over reaction
- integrates care across physical, mental, cognitive, and spiritual domains
- closes the gap between battlefield demands and healthcare delivery
- accelerates technology that strengthens the human weapon system
- supports the entire SOF family, not just the operator
- and ultimately reduces long-term health burdens on warriors and the nation alike
This is the future we must create together—and it starts by listening.
GSOF and MSOFC are calling on industry, past and present military leaders, researchers and academia, healthcare providers, advocates, and nonprofit organizations to help shape the foundation of the HHP Working Group. Your insight will directly influence the priorities, partnerships, and innovation agenda that define this next era of SOF human performance.
Enter the HHP Working Group by completing our short survey.
Your voice is not merely requested—it is essential.
Your ideas will guide the path forward.
Your contribution will help ensure that the SOF truth—humans are more important than hardware—remains not just a belief, but a promise kept. Let’s build the future of human performance.
Our next Working Group will be in person at the Special Air Warfare Symposium on Wednesday, February 11th, from 10:15-11:15 at Sunset 1 of the Destin / Ft. Walton Beach Conference Center.
