The NICoE is dedicated to improving the lives of patients and families affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) through collaborative efforts with patients, families, referring providers, and researchers. Since opening on June 24, 2010, in Bethesda, Maryland, we have established a reputation for excellence in TBI and brain health clinical care, research, and education.

Located on the campus of Naval Support Activity Bethesda; adjacent to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland (MD)Programs & Services
– Intensive Outpatient Program (open to active duty service members with mild-moderate TBI)
– Brain Fitness Center (focus on computer-based training tools for attention, memory, and decision making/processing speed rehab; open to active duty service members and their beneficiaries)
– NICoE Outpatient Services (diagnostic evaluations, treatments, diagnoses, follow-up care for TBI of all severities; open to active duty service members, guardsmen, reservists, retirees, and their beneficiaries; 17-years-old minimum; mild-severe TBI)
– Interdisciplinary care model: team including a neurologist, psychiatrist, internist (team leader), neuropsychologist, family therapist, speech language pathologist, nutritionist, audiologist, physical and occupational therapist and chaplain.

– Active Duty TriCare benficiaries only
– Built with $65 million in private donations by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, transferred to the DOD for staffing/ongoing operation in 2010. Private donations, donations from corporations and NGOs.
